Have you ever been added to a group on Instagram and want to leave it? For quite some time now, some “marketers” think it’s a great strategy to spam people with their offering(s) by adding people to their group without permission. Yes, the platform allows this — but WHY would you do that?

Would YOU be okay with someone adding you to a group without your knowledge or permission, and then using that group as a spam forum?

It’s frustrating, I get it! So, you want to bail out of that group? Here’s how (see images following):

  1. Open your Instagram app.
  2. Tap the group conversation to open GROUP OPTIONS.
  3. Tap the far right-hand option, LEAVE.
  4. Another screen should pop up verifying your choice to leave this group. Tap LEAVE.
  5. You’ve left the group and will no longer see any notifications or messages unless one or more members follow or has followed you.

CONCLUSION

Don’t spam people on social media platforms. It doesn’t matter that the platforms give an option to not receive certain notifications or “they can opt to leave”, psh. Many people don’t know those options exist, and they shouldn’t be added to anything without a clear direction of how to leave or opt out.

TIP: If you’re on LinkedIn, don’t spam people with your offers (a.k.a. a rant, in my opinion) using the private message, whether or not you connect to that person. To some, that’s no different than a telemarketer’s cold call; it’s very lame, and we hate getting those calls, right? Make your offering enticing, invite people to connect BUT TELL THEM WHY. Be honest, be transparent.

Be strategic. Be visible. Be found.
